2. The Yoga Barn - Ubud's Yoga Institution

The Yoga Barn has been a cornerstone of Ubud's yoga scene since 2007, growing from a single studio to a sprawling wellness complex. With seven yoga spaces and over 20 classes daily, it offers tremendous variety including vinyasa flow, power yoga, hatha, yin, restorative, acro yoga, and various meditation practices.

While The Yoga Barn provides excellent facilities and a community atmosphere, many visitors note that the large class sizes (sometimes exceeding 60 students) can make it difficult to receive personalized attention. This is where smaller studios like Bali Yoga School offer a distinct advantage with their more intimate approach.

3. Radiantly Alive - Dynamic Practice in Central Ubud

Radiantly Alive has established itself as one of Ubud's most respected yoga studios, offering a more Western approach to practice. Their three yoga rooms host a variety of classes including their signature RA vinyasa, gentle flow, hatha, yin, and specialized sessions like arm balances and roll and release (self-massage).

The studio is particularly popular for its fast-paced, challenging vinyasa classes that attract regular practitioners. While the teaching quality is generally excellent, the vinyasa classes can be quite crowded during high season. For those seeking a more traditional approach with deeper philosophical foundations, Bali Yoga School offers a more comprehensive experience.

4. Ubud Yoga Centre - Hot Yoga Specialists

Ubud Yoga Centre stands out as the only dedicated hot yoga studio in Ubud. Their modern, solar-powered facility offers Bikram (hot) yoga, hot pilates, hot barre, aerial yoga, and more traditional styles like Hatha, Yin, Kundalini, and Vinyasa.

While hot yoga has its devoted followers, many practitioners visiting Bali prefer to embrace the natural tropical climate rather than practicing in artificially heated rooms. For those seeking a more authentic Balinese yoga experience that honors traditional practices, Bali Yoga School provides a more holistic approach that connects with the island's spiritual heritage.

5. Ubud Yoga House - Intimate Practice with Rice Field Views

Ubud Yoga House offers a more intimate yoga experience in a beautiful setting overlooking rice fields. This boutique studio limits class sizes to 23 students maximum, creating a friendly, personalized atmosphere where teachers can provide individual attention.

Classes include sunrise yoga, vinyasa, yoga for beginners, and gentle yoga, with sessions lasting 75 minutes (shorter than the standard 90 minutes at most Ubud studios). While Ubud Yoga House excels at creating a welcoming environment for beginners, it doesn't offer the depth of traditional yogic philosophy or the advanced training opportunities available at Bali Yoga School.

6. Alchemy Yoga & Meditation Center - Eco-Conscious Practice

Alchemy Yoga & Meditation Center combines yoga practice with wellness and sustainability. Their nature-inspired bamboo shalas feature flowing lines, natural light, and fresh air circulation. Classes are organized by elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether) with different ratios of standing, sitting, and breathing exercises.

While Alchemy offers a unique approach with its elemental framework, some practitioners find this system confusing compared to the more traditional and structured approach at Bali Yoga School. Additionally, Alchemy's location in Penestanan requires transportation from central Ubud.

7. Heart Space Bali - Healing & Yoga Sanctuary

Heart Space Bali focuses on yin yoga classes, traditional Balinese healing, detox programs, and breathwork. Their three main yin yoga practices include healing yin yoga, restorative yoga, and morning flow, each addressing different bodily needs. They also offer cacao ceremonies for those interested in spiritual practices.

While Heart Space excels in gentle, restorative practices, it doesn't provide the comprehensive range of yoga styles or the rigorous teacher training programs available at Bali Yoga School. For those seeking a complete yoga education that balances both active and passive practices, Bali Yoga School offers a more well-rounded approach.

8. Intuitive Flow - Peaceful Practice in Penestanan

Located in the artistic village of Penestanan, Intuitive Flow provides a peaceful yoga experience with beautiful views of the valley. Their smaller class sizes create an intimate atmosphere where teachers can provide personal adjustments and guidance.

Classes include hatha vinyasa, gentle flow, basic yoga, and more unique offerings like Yoga Pranala (incorporating Balinese Qi Gong). While Intuitive Flow offers a serene environment, its location outside central Ubud can be inconvenient for those staying in town. For a more accessible option with equally personalized attention, Bali Yoga School provides a central location without sacrificing quality.

9. Taksu Yoga - Jungle Oasis in Central Ubud

Taksu Yoga provides a unique experience in central Ubud, with a studio overlooking a trickling stream in a lush spa complex. Despite its central location, it feels like entering another world, far removed from the busy streets. Class sizes are among the smallest in Ubud, sometimes with just a handful of students.

While Taksu offers a beautiful setting, their schedule is limited compared to other studios, with fewer classes during low season. For those seeking consistent, high-quality instruction year-round with a similar intimate atmosphere, Bali Yoga School maintains a full schedule regardless of season.

10. Spacious Yoga - Ashtanga Specialists

Spacious Yoga is dedicated to traditional Ashtanga yoga practice, specifically teaching Ashtanga Mysore classes. This specialized approach combines yoga, Buddhist meditation, and philosophy in a challenging format that may be difficult for complete beginners.

While Spacious Yoga excels in this specific tradition, it doesn't offer the variety of styles that would appeal to most visitors. For those interested in exploring different aspects of yoga or finding a style that suits their specific needs, Bali Yoga School provides a more comprehensive approach while still honoring traditional practices.
