5 Days Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Course in Bali, Indonesia

Aerial yoga, sometimes called anti-gravity or flying yoga, is among the most inventive and exciting expressions of yoga practiced today. It is a blend of classical asana and some elements of acrobatics and suspended movement with a silk hammock that is tightly secured at a high level. This practice is a reconstruction of your relationship in a balanced, patient and conscious way, and creates a strong communication between the body and the mind that most traditional practices fail to establish.

Aerial yoga is not done on a mat, unlike traditional yoga. This is done above the ground level and hangs from the ceiling in fabric secured tightly to it. This one-rotation makes the whole experience really therapeutic and beneficial to the body, mind and overall sense of well-being.

What Makes Aerial Yoga Special?

Aerial yoga is an exercise of meditation and it’s an exercise of joy! It ensures you remain present, engaged and challenged, session after session! Progress takes time and practice; but there are no shortcuts, and it is one of the most rewarding experiences for the practitioner. Plus, it’s available to all, no matter how experienced you are.

A Contemporary Practice in a Classical Style

One yoga style that is a blend of traditional yoga, along with a playful and contemporary approach. It can lead to an educational experience of a lifetime provided students are willing to go.

For beginners and advanced yogis alike

Everyone is welcome to do aerial yoga. All progress in this class will be yours; if you are a novice, or have been practicing for years, that will depend on your commitment, practice and readiness to learn something new.

What Is Aerial Yoga and the Aerial Yoga Hammock?

The hammock is considered the foundation of aerial yoga, so if you're looking to learn more, you need to begin with the hammock.

The fabric is surprisingly simple, soft, smooth and feels great against the skin, but designed to support a person's entire body weight without stress or harm. Instructors alter the hammock before every class, this isn't a standard frame it's set up to fit each student so it's not the same one for everyone but rather it's for you.

In fact, the hammock does more than just provide support. It provides room for inversion which the floor just can't beat. It enables the body to go deeper than it would go on its own to stretch and rotate.

01

Safe Spine Decompression

Assists in the safe decompression and inversion of the spine.

02

Improved Flexibility

Assists with hip, shoulder and hamstring flexibility.

03

Upper Body Strength

Effective upper body, arms and shoulder strengtheners.

04

Balance & Coordination

Improves balance, coordination and posture.

05

Joy & Confidence

Creates a sense of joy, adventure and confidence.

06

Self Exploration

Helps practitioners explore themselves more deeply.

07

Natural Spine Relief

The gentle upside-down position helps decompress the spine and relieve pressure on the discs.

08

Body Awareness

Suspended poses improve coordination, perception and mindfulness.

What Typically Happens During an Aerial Yoga Class

The teacher encourages students to align, adjust and find the breath in each aerial yoga session. Safety and confidence are of paramount importance throughout, and every class is made to feel good, positive and progressive.

01

Warm-Up

The class starts with simple stretches, breathing and movement to prepare the body to move in the air. Light spinal movement and shoulder openers help the body feel awake before the fabric is added.

02

Hammock Set-Up

Each student sets up their hammock at the right height for their body. Instructors stay close by to ensure everything is correctly and safely adjusted before practice begins.

03

Guided Postures and Flows

The teacher leads the group through a well-organised sequence of poses and flows, with clear transitions and variations for different levels.

04

Aerial Inversions

Students practice partial or full inversions while the spine decompresses and the body experiences a deep sense of release with full hammock support.

05

Deep Stretching

Students use the hammock for positions that may feel more difficult on the floor, especially stretches for the hips, chest and spine.

06

Savasana and Relaxation

Savasana is practiced in the hammock at the end of each session. Students leave feeling peaceful, refreshed and deeply relaxed.

Why Choose Bali Yoga School for Aerial Yoga Teacher Training?

Aerial yoga can be learned in various parts of the world. However, to learn it in Bali, where the spiritual depth and tropical stillness of this island brings a truly different learning atmosphere for inner work, is another experience altogether. We are committed to blending the practice of an expert teacher with the solid foundation of traditional teaching and an incredibly inspiring place to learn at Bali Yoga School.
01

Professional Faculty and a Well-Rounded Curriculum

We'll teach you aerial technique, anatomy, instructional design, safety protocols, and hands-on practical experience and you'll be a fully-empowered teacher. Graduates are not only certified but also well equipped to assume a teaching position in a clear and competent way.

02

Authenticity & Tradition

We combine the true essence of yoga and the playful expression of the possibly modern day - the aerial practice. You'll have both, back to back, woven in carefully and intentionally throughout each session. The creativity and freedom that comes with aerial movement is played against a backdrop of ancient principles of breath, alignment, and mindfulness.

03

A naturally serene setting

Our large aerial space is constructed with focus and freedom in mind, all within the naturally serene environment of Bali. Learning is an integral part of the environment. The gentle energy of the island, the open space and the natural light provides a space for the body and mind to become fully present for the practice.

04

Small Groups

Keeping our groups small, each student gets real attention, real feedback, and is seen growing in their progress. No one gets lost in the crowd here. The instructor can be observing with great interest, correct while it is happening and modify for the actual needs of the group on that day.

05

Community & Support

When you come into our presence, you are a part of our family. We provide a place where students can connect, develop and maintain relationships that go beyond the courses. A good many of our old students stay in touch with us long after they left our school.

Who Is This Course For?

This training is designed to be inclusive and suitable for all levels of ability and no prior aerial ability or yoga experience is required to participate.

It's for the absolute beginner that is curious and wants to learn aerial yoga, no prior yoga experience required, just a sense of openness.

It's for the advanced yoga teacher seeking to bring a rare and increasingly sought after specialty to their teaching that will give them the edge over other yoga instructors.

It is for anyone looking for a physical transformation, for those who wish to create solid core and upper-body strength, increase their range of motion, and bring a level of body awareness that simply floor practice does not provide.

It's for those who are drawn to movement that is more playful than as a form of discipline; for those students who want their practice to have an element of adventure, lightness, and genuine enjoyment alongside the physical challenge.

It's for people who want to connect with themselves in a deeper sense and it's for people who want to be able to trust their own body and the support around them and feel the feeling of hanging upside down in fabric and feeling not disconnected.

It's not about where you're starting from. It's your willingness to show up, stay curious, and trust the process, the hammock, and the practice, will take care of the rest.
