THE ORIGIN OF YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist Yin and Yang philosophy. These two forces represent opposite but complementary aspects of life: Yin is considered as passive, still, age of nights while Yang is active, vigorous, day oriented. Vinyasa and Ashtanga are fast moving forms of Yoga, or what is termed as the Yang forms while Yin Yoga is a style that seeks to capture the slow, passive or slow forms of Yoga, or the Yin.

Yin Yoga is practice on the connective tissue of the body especially the fascia, tendons and ligaments with the holding of the asana for 3-5 minutes or more making it possible to address the body and even emotional issues. This is a low impact, slow moving exercise that enables the person to get to a relaxed state that is perfect for reflection and mending of the soul.

In traditional Chinese medicine the body is divided into channels, which are associated with particular organs or feelings. Yin Yoga unlocks and powers up these channels and then regulates the Qi (energy) flowing in the body. So, Yin Yoga can be considered as an unique solution for people in the modern world where the bustle prevails as the king.

BENEFITS OF YIN YOGA

Enhanced Flexibility: Static stretches over time also allow connective tissues to regain water and length thus increasing joint mobility.
Increased Circulation: Yin Yoga assists in the flow of blood to areas of the body which are not very active and therefore assists in energizing the body.
Stress Relief & Emotional Healing: Yin Yoga positively influences the sphere of emotional health because it promotes the work of the parasympathetic system and helps to cope with stress and emotional tension.
Mindfulness and Self-Awareness: Yin Yoga has the aspect of being aware, of listening to the body as well as to the mind.
Better Sleep: The effects that Yin Yoga has on the nervous system mean that you can quickly relax and have a good night’s sleep.
Balancing Energies: The two significant aspects of the balance of life refers to yin and yang. Yin Yoga is an effort to harmonize these energies so that there is a balance.
